The surname is first recorded in the mid 12th Century (see below). Hugh Talon is listed in the 1180 Pipe Rolls of Yorkshire, and Johanna Taloun is noted in the Subsidy Rolls of Suffolk (1327). Recordings of the surname from English Church Registers include: the marriage of Elizabeth Tallon and Benjamin Drake on June 12th 1671, at the Temple Church of England, London; and the marriage of Edward Tallon and Margaret Lambert, on November 29th 1725, at Ingleton, Yorkshire. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Henry Talon, which was dated 1160, in the "Documents relating to the Danelaw, Lincolnshire", during the reign of King Henry 11, known as "The Builder of Churches", 1154 - 1189.
